Run, Fat Boy, Run (Movie Review) 27Sep08 | 0

Poster for RFBRWhat can I say about this movie that hasn’t already been said by others on Netflix and other user review sites? Probably not a whole lot to be honest.

Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz & Shaun of the Dead) stars in this along with Thandie Newton (Crash, Beloved, etc.) as a boneheaded but lovable cretin, Dennis, who literally runs from his pregnant fiancé the day of their marriage. There are tons of laughs in this romantic comedy that pits Pegg vs. Hank Azaria, who plays the well to do American who is the adversary to Dennis in his 5 year attempt at salvaging his relationship with his ex-fiancé Libby. The story goes by pretty fast and can kind of get confusing at times since it feels like it’s missing scenes, but overall it David Schwimmer (yes, the dork of Friends fame) did a pretty good job of directing this.

T.I. - Paper Trail Review 25Sep08 | 0

This is T.I.’s much anticipated and waited for album after T.I. v T.I.P. He’s put on several tracks such as Whatever You Like, What Up, What Haapnin’, and Swagga Like Us (best track on the album, might as well get that out of the way). Here’s my review as best as I could put it together. I’ll tell you now since I like being, or at least trying to be honest. I haven’t really liked a T.I. album straight through since Trap Muzik, and even that I didn’t listen all the way through. So let’s get into this shall we? Cover for Paper Trail

The album starts out with a sub-par intro track called 56 Barz and let’s just say it leaves a lot to be desired. He got back with DJ Toomp on this track and he apparently did something weird with the production where T.I. sounds like he could be someone’s 11 year old brother trying to kick his illest rhymes. Not good by any means, but is immediately saved by I’m Illy and the next two songs Ready for Whatever & On Top of the World, the latter featuring Ludacris and it turns out pretty well. That is until you hit the weird techno sampled Live Your Life with Rihanna — I don’t know what he was thinking on this, either it was “Let’s get Rihanna on a track” or “Let’s do something completely retarded real quick and get me in some of those clubs where people dress like peacocks!” but the end result is really horrible.

Jay-Z - Show Me What You Got (Review) 07Oct06 | 0

So as I was running around yesterday, with no iPod to listen to (mostly due to the fact I forgot to charge it), I had to listen to the radio. Yeah I know, shame on me and what not, but geez people I have to listen to something!

Anyways as I flipping through the horrible dreck that is FM radio, I tuned into one of the local craptacular “hip-hop” stations here that usually plays constant D4L, Dem Fagchise Boys, etc. In doin’ that I found out Jay is coming back with a new album. First reaction was, what the hell for. Second reaction was, what the hell for. Not to say I don’t like Jay or anything, but he’s dropped better verses on guest appearances then he did on this whole track. Only saving grace for the track is maybe the beat. I honestly think I know what the problem is though.

Jay let himself be influenced by Lupe Fiasco. This track has that weird, nerdish, “Slow Down” feel to it, and that track was the ghey. Anytime a guy who looks like Lupe says he’s about his paper or his money joe you turn around and go get your money back. Anyways that’s a whole different convo in itself.

I guess the track is decent, not the best Jay-Z track to come out, but then again he pulled a Cher/Barbra Streisand/Bette Midler/Celine Dion/Random-other-female-recording-artist, so it’s kind of to be expected that he’d make a track to make some quick cash.

Obie Trice - Second Rounds On Me 29Jul06 | 0

Going to make a quick review of the record here since I made the same one on my MOG just now.

If you got tired of Eminem and the whole 50 Cent thing after about 5 minutes, that’d be perfectly understandable. 50 got real old after he started doin’ the same shit that he was makin’ diss records towards Ja Rule about, but that’s a whole different post. Mobb Deep - Blood Money (Review) 19Apr06 | 0

So there’s a bunch of albums I grabbed today, so expect a few reviews today and tomorrow.

The first of these reviews, as you can already tell from the cover, is Mobb Deep’s latest.

Simply because it’s Mobb Deep I want to like it, but at the same time because it’s on G-Unit I can’t expect much.

T.I. - King (Review) 24Mar06 | 0

The King album coverSo yeeeah all you pirates and pirarettes, it’s dropped. One of the only Down South rappers that most people can tolerate will be dropping his 3rd effort come next week (the 28th I think), and I’ll be damned if it isn’t worth coppin’.

It’s got good production, with hot producers like Just Blaze and (possibly to be considered) Manny Fresh. With all the recent album’s to come out that sound like you could’ve done ‘em with your computer mic and Fruity Loops, you can tell from the first track that some cash was slapped on the table for this one. So it’s definitely ahead of the game when it comes to production value, like Game’s album, crystal clear with hot beats. Good times indeed.

Mr. A-Z (Review) 08Mar06 | 0

So as you all will come to see I have a bit of a random taste in music. And here is a little bit of it for you to sample. :P

So when Jason Mraz came out with his first CD Waiting for My Rocket to Come I waited about a month to pick it up, not because I wasn’t interested, but because I’m broke as hell. I never really regretted not getting it back then, because when I did listen to it I was fairly unimpressed with it as a whole. Sure it had it’s good moments like any CD should, but it was hella forgettable save for a few tracks.

Anyways that being said, I’m like I guess 8 months behind picking up his new CD Mr. A-Z. I’m glad I didn’t wait too long though because I like this one, though I’m still not exactly sure why. [...]

In My Own Words 01Mar06 | 0

So I figure since there’s a major lack of actual original content here I might as well do something with what I know best — music. Here’s a nice review of Ne-Yo’s In My Own Words.

If you didn’t know, this dude co-wrote Mario’s hit “Let Me Love You”, so as much as the ladies loved that song, I’m sure they’ll feel his solo debut too. This is one of those rare R&B CD’s that is totally written from the male perspective, and actually manages to not suck.
